Additional Resources

Psi Beta, the national honor society in psychology for community colleges, was inspired by Ruth Cousins, former Psi Chi Executive Officer. Psi Beta was founded and incorporated in the state of Tennessee by Carol Tracy with eleven charter chapters on November 5, 1981. Also in 1981, Psi Beta began publishing the Psi Beta Newsletter, which continues to be published two times a year - fall and spring. Psi Beta's affiliation with the American Psychological Association was approved in August of 1988. Psi Beta became an affiliate of the American Psychological Society (now the Association for Psychological Science) in 1991. On February 19, 1994 Psi Beta was approved for membership in the Association of College Honor Societies as that organization's first two-year college honor society member. A more detailed history of Psi Beta is available in the Psi Beta Handbook and Membership Brochure.
